CFB Week 1 Results and Discussion
What an awesome fucking week for college football. Not only because both myself and my co-host (Tcarl) were able to see the board with a crystal ball, but because we were treated with some absolute epic games.
The national spotlight always opens the door for potential witchcraft, and I think it's safe to say that this week was loaded with that. Starting on Thursday night as Colorado snuck by with a 1-point win on the road, the ZOOMASS upset of the century, to the Michigan double-hail mary. Now, I was at the MN state fair all day Saturday and only got to see the highlights, plus I also didn't bet that game so I really don't have a dog in the fight.
Want to know my opinion on it? I actually don't really care. I'll admit that it seems very fishy that they were given a second-chance, but shame on Western Michigan for even allowing that touchdown to happen in the first place. If we're being told the clock on the field doesn't match the clock we all see at home, that's another problem in itself.
When it comes to the week's biggest losers, it's fair to throw Rutgers in the ring, but I'd like to take a moment of silence for Oklahoma State fans. OK St was one of my favorite bets this weekend, and they just flat out didn't show up to play. Props to Tulsa and all 4K enrolled students for showing out.
As I stumbled into my bed around midnight, I got to flip on the UCLA game when they were still tied 24-24, and to my greatest joy, they rallied off three more touchdowns to win the game. All in all, it was a great start to the college football season.
Fast forward to Sunday with some really great matchups -- and yes I say matchups because even though two of the three games were essentially blow outs, they still provided great value. On the week 1 picks podcast earlier, I had mentioned that I liked Ole Miss to cover that spread, and frankly, I did. That said, as it ticked closer to gametime, I did the ole switcharoo and backed Louisville.
Was able to secure the Cardinals at an alternate line of +14.5, while holding other tickets that had Ole Miss on the moneyline. Safe to say I was sweating out everything in that 4th quarter which is why we love this shit so much (and of course, the arb worked and all tickets cashed).
Moving onto Monday night, let's leave it to FSU to have their own student drive his car directly into the power transformer to avoid the Noles getting their backs blown out by SMU. This game had witchcraft written all over it, and it absolutely lived up to the hype.
SMU was hell bent on giving this game away, but was able to come up with a couple of big stops in the 4th quarter to secure themselves what would be a game-winning field goal. What I'm finding out about betting on Kalshi is that I have an inability to let my games ride (sometimes). This leads to checking the cash out option at every score.
In last night's game, with only 21 seconds left, I still was not comfortable enough with the 3-point lead and ended up cashing out my $1,500 ticked on SMU before the final whistle. Priced at $.96, I figured that this game has all the makings of a bizarre finish, and that given the circumstances, FSU could legitimately find a way to send this game to overtime.
It only cost me $80 of insurance in the long-run but the tried-and-true blue secured a scary win on the road in unimaginable conditions. And to that, I still want to believe that SMU will win the ACC this year.
Enough about me, as I went 9-5 on the podcast picks, I am 17-4 on the season with a +9.99U rate -- let's talk about Tcarl who joined the show as a permanent member for week 1 and went an insane 12-1.
